OAEC Michelle Tang Won 1st Place Overall for Solo Dance
At the 2012 Dance Showcase USA Grand National Finals
The 2012 Dance Showcase USA National Finals were held at the Kennedale Performing Arts Center, Dallas-Fort Worth from June 19 to June 24. More than 900 dancers from all over the nation competed in the finals. Twelve-year-old Oriental Arts Education Center student Michelle Tang won the first place overall out of 57 national finalists in her age group. Her dance entry, “Walking in the Rain”, deeply touched the judges and audience. Many parents and dancers came to Michelle to show how much they enjoyed her dance. Some of them were so touched that they even cried. All judges highly praised her outstanding performance. One judge exclaimed, “Gorgeous!” and another remarked, “Beautiful use of head and hands for expression!” Michelle received 1st Place in Folkloric Solo Dance at the National Finals on Tuesday, June 19 and 1st Place Overall Solo Dance at the National Grand Showcase Finals on Thursday, June 21. She also received a 5-foot tall trophy and a $200 gift certificate for next year’s regional contest!
